Marathi Community
At Aapli Marathi Shala & Community, we are a community-driven organization built by the community and for the community. As Marathi-speaking individuals living away from our motherland, we understand the value of coming together and supporting each other. This platform serves as a pillar of strength for our Marathi community, where we help each other in different ways, whether it’s for personal or professional needs. As we always say in Marathi, “एकमेकांस सहाय्य करू, अवघे धरू सुपंथ” – Let’s help each other and keep moving forward together. This simple yet powerful statement reflects our driving force in building an inclusive and open community. Our goal is to create a space where everyone feels supported and connected, helping each other through life’s challenges.
Marathi Shala
We have two branches of Marathi Shala – one in Mountain House (with over 80 kids) and one in Manteca (with over 12 kids). Our mission is to teach the beloved Marathi language to the next generation. While their first language is English, connecting them to their cultural roots is of utmost importance. Along with the language, we also offer various workshops on Marathi culture, celebrating festivals like Sankranti, Maitri Divas, Mahashivratri, Gudi Padwa, Rang Panchami, Ganesha, Holi, Independence Day, Diwali, and much more. We also organize Shala Sahal (field trips) to create fun-filled learning experiences outside the classroom.
Marathi Library (ग्रंथालय)
Our community-run library is open to everyone and holds over 200 books donated by community members and Shala participants. We’re also planning to donate books to the San Joaquin libraries to spread the love for Marathi literature. Our goal is to make books and knowledge accessible to everyone who shares a passion for learning.
Technology Teaching Initiatives
In today’s tech-driven world, it’s important to equip our young generation with modern skills. Our skilled technology lead teaches computer skills every Saturday to kids, helping them stay up to date with the latest in technology. We are also planning to build apps and websites for our community to make information and communication more accessible.
Newsletter
Every small or big achievement deserves to be celebrated! Our community newsletter helps us share the accomplishments of local individuals, from educational successes to career milestones. We believe in uplifting each other, and celebrating our achievements together makes us stronger.
Community-Driven Programs
Our community thrives on shared experiences. We organize various cultural events, Kirtans, Diwali Sandhya/Pahat, seminars, and other events to keep our traditions alive and celebrate together as a community. These events not only foster cultural bonding but also create lasting memories.
Supporting Local Businesses
We encourage local businesses to showcase their products and services within the community. This helps strengthen our local economy and build connections between members who support each other’s businesses.
Community Publications
One of our most exciting initiatives is the publication of Diwali Ank and the Year Book. These community-driven publications showcase our cultural stories, achievements, and memories, allowing us to pass on our heritage to the next generation.
