Aapli Marathi Shala Language & Cultural Syllabus

Welcome to the Aapli Marathi Shala Syllabus page! Our curriculum is designed to offer a comprehensive and enriching learning experience to our students, encompassing the beauty and depth of the Marathi language and culture. The curriculum integrates cultural events, pronunciation practice, speaking skills, and exposure to poetry and geographical knowledge relevant to India and the USA. Below is an overview of the key components of our syllabus:

आमचा अभ्यासक्रम मराठी भाषा शिकवण्यापेक्षा अधिक आहे; तो मराठी संस्कृती, इतिहास, आणि आध्यात्मिक परंपरांमध्ये विद्यार्थ्यांना विसर्जित करण्याचा एक प्रयत्न आहे. इंटरॅक्टिव्ह धडे, प्रात्यक्षिके, आणि सांस्कृतिक विसर्जनाद्वारे, आम्ही विद्यार्थ्यांमध्ये मराठी परंपरेचे प्रेम आणि आदर निर्माण करण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो.

२०२५ साठी आमच्या अभ्यासक्रमाची रूपरेषा विद्यार्थ्यांना मराठी भाषा आणि संस्कृतीचे सौंदर्य प्रदान करण्यासाठी डिझाइन केली गेली आहे. खाली आमच्या अभ्यासक्रमाच्या प्रमुख घटकांचा आढावा दिला आहे:

Syllabus Outline

Barakhadi, Words, and Numbers:

  • Swar and Vyanjane – Recap
  • Introduction to Barakhadi (alphabet and its combinations).
  • Basic Marathi words and numbers.
  • Vocabulary building exercises.

Prarthana and Shlok:

  • Learning and reciting traditional prayers (Prarthana & Rashtra geet & Vande Mataram) and Manache shlok.
  • Understanding the meaning and significance of each prayer or shlok.
  • SuryaNamaskar / Mediation/ Kavayat – for Batch1 (group1 & group2).
  • Prarthana/ Shlok schedule can change-byweekly or monthly (mainly batch2).

Reading and Writing:

  • Introduction to Marathi script (Devanagari) and basic writing skills.
  • Comprehension exercises using age-appropriate Marathi texts.
  • Story telling / festival related content – by weekly (Batch1 & 2)
  • Book reading (will encourage) – Batch 1 & 2.
  • Writing short essays and stories on cultural themes.

Pronunciation, Speaking Practice, and Conversation:

  • Focus on correct pronunciation of Marathi words and phrases.
  • Role-play exercises and dialogues to practice conversational skills.
  • Discussions on everyday topics in Marathi to enhance fluency.
  • Suvichar, phrases, Vakya Prachar, Picture reading/description.

Poems / Badbad Geete and Pathantar:

  • Reading and reciting Marathi poems (kavita).
  • Pathantar (elocution) exercises to improve expression and delivery.
  • Practice / Homework- word, sentences

Rivers and Mountains of India and USA:

  • Study of major rivers and mountains of India and their cultural importance.
  • Comparison with rivers and mountains in the USA to facilitate geographical understanding.
  • Fort, Temples, Historical places, Geography, Scholars native places.

Cultural Events (Workshop):

  • Study and celebration of major Marathi cultural events and festivals (e.g., Gudi Padwa, Janmashtami, Dasara Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali).
  • Learning about rituals, traditions, and historical significance associated with each festival.
  • Encourage elder kids to talk about festival information.

Project-based Learning: Theme-based Projects:

  • Conducting projects on specific themes related to Marathi culture, literature, or history.
  • Collaborative learning activities promoting research, presentation skills, and teamwork.
  • Nibandha (Essay) writing, Letter (Patra) to parents, grandama, mama, friend.

Shala Exam:

Preparation for the optional MH Shala exam alongside regular Marathi Shala assessments.

Practice tests and mock exams to familiarize students with the exam format and content.

Quarterly mock trial and two main written / oral exams.

Reading practice:

  • Library initiatives:
  • Monthly reading approx. 20 mins.
  • Marathi Balbharti – Pahili to Pachavi (arranging few books).

Modern Technology teaching and sports (optional):

  • Computer science – language learning, app development, website design.
  • Carrom classes – learning
  • Women Cricket for parents and kids.

Resources:

  • Textbooks, workbooks, and supplementary materials tailored for teaching Marathi as a second language – check with Shala admins and library admins.
  • Audiovisual resources, Marathi literature books, and cultural artifacts to enhance learning experiences – check with library.
