When the lights of Diwali glow, they don’t just brighten homes – they illuminate hearts. This year, Aapli Marathi Shala brought that magic to Manteca with Diwali Sandhya-2025, a program that was more than an event. It was an experience of togetherness, talent, and tradition.
🌟 A True Community Effort
- Next generation leadership: High schoolers didn’t just volunteer; they drove the programs, showing how tradition thrives when passed on to next generation with energy and innovation.
- Inclusive celebration: Non-Marathi friends weren’t just spectators – they performed in the local talent section, making the evening a cultural bridge.
🎲 Daylong Festivities
The celebration wasn’t limited to the evening stage – it was a full-day festival!
- Diwali Chess Competition: 30+ participants battled minds in a spirited contest.
- Diwali Carrom Competition: With 16 teams, the classic board game brought nostalgia and excitement.
- Physics Workshop: 30+ kids explored science in a fun, festival-themed way.
- Diwali Family Art Show: 35+ families showcased creativity; the Mayor and First Lady of Manteca were so impressed they placed art orders!

🎶 Music That Touched Souls
The highlight of the evening was the mesmerizing performances by our main singers:
- Namrata Mahabal
- Rigved Barve
For over 3 hours, the audience was spellbound. Planned breaks vanished as listeners insisted on continuing the journey of melodies. Standing ovations, endless applause, and heartfelt emotions made this segment unforgettable.
🏮 Handmade Love – Akash Kandil
Instead of store-bought gifts, families and kids crafted handmade lanterns (Akash Kandil). These weren’t just decorations – they were tokens of love, tradition, and creativity. Guests cherished them as symbols of heartfelt community spirit.

🍴 Food That Felt Like Home
No festival is complete without flavors! Volunteers prepared:
- Besan Laddoo
- Chivada
- Tea
These treats weren’t just snacks – they were comfort, shared generously with participants and volunteers.

🎭 Ambience & Decor
The atmosphere was magical thanks to the decoration team:
- Stage design: Attractive enough to keep eyes glued to performers.
- Entrance decor: So beautiful that the event began right there.
- Photo booths: Both physical and digital, they became so popular that they had to be dismantled mid-event to make space for the audience! Pictures taken by participants (mainly kids) can be seen here.
🤝 Non-Profit Involvement
What made Diwali Sandhya 2025 even more meaningful was the involvement of local non-profits who brought the spirit of seva (service) into the celebration:
- Manteca Youth Focus (MYF): Dedicated to youth leadership development, MYF has already given out more than $19,000 in scholarships to empower young leaders. Their presence at the event reminded everyone that nurturing the next generation is the brightest light of all. We had 50+ voluntary sign-ups from high schoolers who registered to volunteer for the event, majority of them were from MYF.
- Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS): Through their Seva Diwali booth, HSS collected canned food items and donations, ensuring that the joy of Diwali reached families in need. Their initiative embodied the true essence of giving during the festival of lights.
💬 A community elder reflected:
“Diwali is about sharing light. These non-profits showed us how to share it beyond our own homes.”
💫 Closing Thoughts
Diwali Sandhya 2025 wasn’t just a program – it was a living example of how culture, community, and creativity can come together. From soulful music to scientific curiosity, from handmade lanterns to heartfelt applause, the event embodied the spirit of Diwali: light, love, and unity. We are looking forward to see you all during Diwali Sandhya 2026..!
